Overwatch developers shared details of Roadhog’s upcoming rework planned for Season 5 during BlizzCon 2026. The primary goal is to keep Roadhog’s core tank identity while making his combinations less toxic and adding team utility.

Hero designer Scott Kennedy confirmed the chain hook remains, but pull distance is shortened to reduce instant-kill frustration. The Scrap Gun features an updated double-shot mechanic alongside the hook changes to give opponents room for counterplay.

Roadhog will receive a new ability called Trash Compactor to absorb damage, creating a safe zone for allies. Senior animator Kyle Disant noted Trash Compactor allows shooting the accumulated charge back as a new skillshot.

Lead producer Kenny Hudson stated the update balances satisfaction for Roadhog players and comfort for opponents. Season 5 will also introduce a new support hero named Doctrine and a rework moving Sombra to the support category.
