Blizzard announced a new game set in the StarCraft universe at BlizzCon 2026, shifting the legendary franchise from its classic real-time strategy roots into an open-world shooter format. Development is led by Dan Hay, who previously headed Ubisoft Montreal and worked on the Far Cry series from 3 to 6.
The title is currently scheduled for release in 2030. Blizzard has not yet shown gameplay footage, announced an official title, confirmed target platforms, detailed the main character, or revealed any multiplayer features for the project.
This marks Blizzard’s third attempt to build a shooter within the StarCraft universe. The company previously developed the cancelled StarCraft: Ghost and worked on project Ares before its cancellation in 2019.
