Riot Games has streamlined the rules for third-party League of Legends tournaments, replacing the previous multi-tiered licensing system with a unified global approach. Most tournaments will no longer require separate approval from Riot, though organizers must still follow the rules and submit events via a special form.
The changes remove strict restrictions on entry fees, sponsorships, prize pools, and viewership fees. Local LAN tournaments, online competitions, and student leagues can now operate with less bureaucracy. However, certain sponsors remain banned, and tournaments cannot be presented as official Riot events.
The update focuses on developing the amateur scene and giving more freedom to the community while maintaining basic regulatory oversight.
