An old cs2 source code leak originating from March 2019 surfaced online in August 2026, though Valve has not yet confirmed its authenticity. Dataminer Gabe Follower analyzed the files alongside 2017 code to uncover various hidden developments and discarded ideas.

The datamine revealed plans for a cooperative Terror Hunt mode, the TAC-21 weapon, custom clothing, grenade skins, and character taunts. Additionally, the Danger Zone battle royale mode contained preparations for sonar equipment, bear traps, night vision goggles, and drone grenade drops.

Gabe Follower heavily criticized the overall code quality, noting that the game accumulated temporary fixes over many years. The analysis showed that the bomb site definition system inherently restricts developers from adding a third site without completely reworking core logic.

The leaked files also contained traces of an early Panorama UI port intended for the Source 2 engine. This discovery follows Valve’s previous legal actions forcing the closure of a browser-based CS version featuring active inventory and cases.
